How many porta potties do I need for my party in Edinburg?
Plan 1 standard porta potty for every 50 guests at an event up to 4 hours. For 6 hours, multiply by 1.5. For 8 hours, multiply by 2. When alcohol is served, add 1 unit for every 4 units, rounded up. A 150-guest, 6-hour party with a bar needs 7 units.
| Guests | Up to 4 hours | Up to 6 hours | Up to 8 hours | 6 hours + alcohol |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 50 guests | 1 | 2 | 2 | 3 |
| 75 guests | 2 | 3 | 3 | 4 |
| 100 guests | 2 | 3 | 4 | 4 |
| 150 guests | 3 | 5 | 6 | 7 |
| 200 guests | 4 | 6 | 8 | 8 |
| 300 guests | 6 | 9 | 12 | 12 |
| 500 guests | 10 | 15 | 20 | 19 |
Round up every time. A line of 10 people at a single porta potty ruins the party faster than any other detail.
Worked example: 150 guests × 1.5 ÷ 50 = 4.5, round up to 5. A bar adds 2 more (5 ÷ 4 = 1.25, round up). Total 7 standard units. For other mixes, use the porta potty calculator and sizing guide.
What kind of events do you deliver porta potties to?
About 60% of the rental calls we reviewed were for events. Birthdays, quinceañeras, family reunions, church picnics, school sports, UTRGV tailgates and park events make up most of them. Each event type needs a slightly different mix of standard units, handwashing stations and wheelchair-accessible units.
| Event | What usually works | Watch for |
|---|---|---|
| Backyard birthday | 1–2 standard units by the side gate | 48-inch gate opening; level spot away from the grill |
| Quinceañera | Standard row plus a deluxe flushing unit or VIP cabin for family | Long nights — plan lighting and the 8-hour multiplier |
| Family reunion | Standard units + 1 handwashing station | Food all day means handwashing near the serving line |
| Church picnic or tent revival | Standard units + 1 wheelchair-accessible unit | Older guests — keep the accessible unit on firm, level ground |
| School sports or track meet | A cluster near the bleachers, another near concessions | Each cluster needs its own accessible unit |
| UTRGV tailgate | Standard units at the lot edge | Football Saturdays book Friday slots a week out |
| Park event | Standard units + handwashing if food is sold | Ask the park office where trucks may drive |

Do I need a wheelchair-accessible porta potty for my event?
Any event open to the public should have at least 1 wheelchair-accessible porta potty in each restroom cluster. The 2010 ADA Standards also call for at least 5% of the units in each cluster to be accessible. A cluster of 10 units needs 1 accessible unit; a cluster of 21 needs 2.
Our accessible units have ground-level entry, a wide door, grab bars and a 60-inch turning space. They are wheelchair-accessible and built to ADA design guidelines. See 2010 ADA Standards §213 and confirm with your venue or permit office.
They take a 7.5 × 7.5 ft level spot and sell out first on holiday weekends. Book 7–10 days ahead. More on the wheelchair-accessible porta potty.
Do I need a handwashing station if we serve food?
Yes, plan at least 1 handwashing station for every 4 toilets when food is served, and never fewer than 1. A two-sided station lets 2 people wash at once. Set the station between the restrooms and the food line, so guests pass the sink before they eat.
Standard units only have hand sanitizer. A party with tamales, barbacoa or a taco man needs real soap and water. Our handwashing stations are foot-pump, with soap and paper towels.

Where should I put porta potties at an outdoor event?
Put event porta potties on firm, level ground at least 25 feet from food, with doors facing away from seating. Keep them within a short walk of the crowd. For any event that runs past sunset, light the path, because standard units have no light inside.
- Keep 25 feet or more from foodSet restrooms downwind of the food tables and serving line. Put handwashing between the toilets and the food.
- Give privacy without hiding themTurn doors away from the main seating, but keep the units easy to spot. A short path beats a long walk in the dark.
- Light the path for night eventsStandard units have no lights inside. Add solar stake lights or a string light along the path for anything after sunset.
- Use firm, level groundGrass, concrete or packed dirt all work. Avoid soft spots after rain and slopes that make the door swing.
- Leave the truck a way outOur truck needs a clear path for pickup Monday. Do not block it with tents or parked cars.
Do I need a permit for an event in Edinburg, and does it ask about restrooms?
Many outdoor events in Edinburg need a City of Edinburg Temporary Use Permit. The application is due at least 30 days before the event. It asks for a letter of authorization for restroom use and trash receptacles. We write a restroom letter for your booking when you ask.
Check the current rules on the City of Edinburg permits and applications page or call Planning & Zoning at 956-388-8202. Rules change, so confirm with your permit office or venue.
Read our step-by-step Edinburg event permit and restroom letter guide before you file.
When do you drop off and pick up porta potties for a weekend event?
For a Saturday or Sunday event, we deliver on Friday, or Thursday if Friday slots fill, and pick up on Monday. You pay the flat event rate only, with no charge for the extra days. We do not deliver or pick up on Sunday.
