Party planning

How many porta potties for your party?

The 50-guest rule in 60 seconds.

Brian Rental Works

The base rule

1 per 50

Plan 1 standard porta potty per 50 guests for a party up to 4 hours. It is the most common answer in our rental calls.

Longer party?

Multiply by hours

Always round up.

Up to 4 hours×1
Up to 6 hours×1.5
Up to 8 hours×2
Over 8 hours×2.5

Bar open?

Add for alcohol

Add 1 unit for every 4 units, rounded up. Drinks mean more trips to the restroom.

Serving food?

Add handwashing

Plan at least 1 handwashing station per 4 toilets, with a minimum of 1. Each station serves 2 people at once.

Every guest

Plan an accessible unit

Include at least 1 wheelchair-accessible unit per cluster, and at least 5% of units. Confirm needs with your venue.

Worked example

150 guests · 5 hours · bar

150 ÷ 50 = 3 → ×1.5 = 4.5 → 5 units

+2 for alcohol = 7 units

Plus 1 wheelchair-accessible unit and 2 handwashing stations.
